Louisville School Bus Crash Injures Waggener High Students
Louisville School Bus Crash Occurs at Jefferson County Line
Just after 2:30 pm on Tuesday June 11 2013 there was a very serious Louisville school bus crash that occurred in the westbound lanes on Interstate 64 just past the Shelby County-Jefferson County line. The school bus was being operated by a local charter company that was bringing Waggener High School students back from a college visit at EKU in Richmond, Kentucky. JCPS was reportedly notifying parents directly. There is also a hotline set up for parents to call, (502) 574-2117.
I observed the aftermath of the Louisville school bus crash firsthand. I was on my way to Shelbyville to file a new lawsuit. I was in the eastbound lanes and photographed the school bus as I passed it in the photograph above. The crash occurred around mile marker 22. I ran into stopped traffic in the eastbound lanes just before 4:00 pm and was delayed by about an hour. Traffic was backed up almost all the way to the Gene Snyder Freeway at mile marker 19. There was also a crashed white car in the far left eastbound lane, several yards past the school bus, that had 2 of the 3 eastbound lanes blocked. As I passed it I couldn’t figure out how it had been involved.
(Needless to say I never made it to the courthouse, which had closed by the time I passed by the crash scene. I will try again tomorrow.)
